Taking Initiative

Taking initiative means doing what has to be done without a reminder. Some ways to take initiative are to ask for more work when you finish the work you already have, find work yourself, and have a good attitude. It's important to take initiative at your internship, because if you don't, you won't get anywhere, and you won't get the job. An example of when I took initiative at my internship was when I finished the invoices for one NIH institute, I simply went and asked John if there was another NIH institute that I could do invoices for.

  1. Hi Alex, good journal entry. You took initiative by asking for other invoices to process. Perhaps you can ask John if you could learn other tasks at your internship.
